Five Reasons We’re Loving the Olympics Comms Team

They’re With Us 24/7

Whether you’re a morning lark who has been setting your alarm for 1am just so you can see the swimming live (we’re looking at you Lexia boss!), or you’re the kind who’s catching up on the day’s action when you’re falling into bed – the GB Olympics PR team has been keeping you covered.

They’re turning out social posts, updated results feeds and news releases at an incredible rate, which is absolutely as it should be to satisfy our thirst.

They’ll be mindful that some of the athlete’s families will be watching every second of every minute to keep check on what their loved one is doing in a particular sport, so that constant-comms is crucial.

They’ve Got Humour and Humility

Yes, they’re serious when they need to be. They’re telling us the stats straight down the lens, and giving us the fundamentals of each discipline of every sport.

And yet, they’re bringing a whole lot of fun and fancy to their outputs too.

We’re loving the quirky comments, the emojis, the throwback references and the timely reminders of just how incredibly hard each and every athlete has worked to get to this point.

They Let an Image Speak a Thousand Words

As you’d expect, it’s the pictures which are granting the nation the best insight into our success, our near-misses, our heartbreak and our elation.

The photos of hugging competitors, jelly-leg winners, knitting-obsessed athletes and the families on the point of meltdown at their loved-one’s victory, are helping us all get to feel like we’re right there, clutching our tickets and sitting in the Tokyo spectator seats, just a few feet from our GB heroes.

They Participate in Two-Way Comms

Forget that preachy type of comms which just tells you the facts and expects you to have little to no interaction.

No. This comms team are happily sharing content, responding to comedic and conversational chatter, and we’re more highly rewarded as a result.

They’re Reading the Mood of the Nation

In the moments of triumph, despair, or edge-of-the-seat hold-your-breath anticipation, the comms team is travelling every twitch and tear with us.

They’re ready to respond and update with a tone of voice which feels utterly appropriate and wholly in line with how we as a patriotic nation are feeling too.

Keep it up Team GB comms team. You’re a valuable medal-winning asset.
